You can find many software programs on the internet to help your optimization efforts. One program helps you determine your keyword saturation level. This is an important factor in your website optimization because you do not want to overload your website with keywords.
There was a time when website owners could flood their website content with keywords relating to their target markets. The search engines would then rank a site based on the number of keywords in the text. It then was a contest to see who could place as many keywords as possible in their website text.
But this was a bad result because people complained that the pages they were directed to by the search engines were not very useful. That is why today the search engines will actually penalize the websites that are saturated with keywords. They will list those websites at the bottom of the search results.
The search engines changed their criteria. Now if a website owner simply jams his site with keywords, his website will be penalized and end up on the bottom of the search results, not where you want to be. So if you plan to do your own SEO do not overuse keywords.
